Commissioned by Bayside City Council, this new sporting facility is home to Cluden Cricket Club who have been summer tenants at the site for 98 years.

The building houses a combination of flexible-planned community spaces in a small footprint; including home & away changerooms, associated amenities, a community social room, kiosk, umpires rooms, meeting rooms, storage areas & public amenities.

Tasked with a unique design brief that the building reflect a ‘distinct English country feel’ the design response features a series of muscular gable forms that elevate at active frontages & dynamically carry through to the internal spaces beneath. Textured brick walls interplay with natural vertical timber elements on elevational frontages to herald an ‘old English’ feel that also grounds the building against a floating roofline above.

Mediating a tight site footprint between the cricket oval & roadway, external spaces are considered integral & the building considers its role in providing generous undercover viewing areas & tiered urban design elements.

In line with Council’s Sustainable Infrastructure Policy, the building encompasses an array of ESD features including rooftop solar, rain water collection, LED Lighting, low VOC materials & water efficient fixtures throughout.
