This popular new Bowls Club comprises a community social space, kitchen, storage areas & changeroom facilities. The planning centres around a linear spatial arrangement that positions the amenities functions at one end, and the social function space at the other adjacent to the botanic gardens – creating a unique social space that has the feel of a ‘room within a garden’
To meet the tight budget, the design adopts a conventional trussed roof system that ‘peels’ open at the side entry, and shapes on either ends of the building, revealing itself within the parkland on one side & civic setting on the other.
The building integrates a number of ESD initiatives; recycled materials from the old clubhouse have also been re-used as materials, passive solar design & ventilation from the adjoining gardens, operable double glazing and infrastructure for future solar and water collection are all adopted.
